Blankenship Debates Professional Anti-Coal Activist
Jan 22 – Outside activists have no regard for the people of Appalachia or affordable U.S. energy sources. Their stance was evident again at the debate between Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship and professional activist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. The anti-coal movement “is causing this country to be non-competitive, it’s costing us our jobs, it will cost the teachers their pension plans if we don’t begin to have a little bit of common sense,” says Blankenship. He criticized the outside activists and their bureaucratic allies in Washington for their tactics and lack of solutions that balance energy needs, economic growth and national security. “When you damage your neighbor based on theories of global warming, based on untruths, based on personal gain like investing in solar panels in the Mojave Desert, which is now being stopped by the enviros, that’s the true sin,” says Blankenship.
