Funding for West Virginia Schools in Jeopardy

Jan 21 – Funding for West Virginia schools is in jeopardy as coal mining faces an uncertain future in the state. Coal provides nearly 10% – around $255 million – of the school budget in West Virginia.  School funding cuts would mean teaching jobs would be eliminated, basic services scaled back and even the basic tools for leaning, computers and textbooks, would have to be cut from the budget.  “Would a loss of coal impact our population? More than likely,” says Boone County Schools Superintendent John Hudson, “we would be strapped.”  Read more in The State Journal.
